IASPD 3 - "Social Protection from the perspective of the Social Charter of the Americas"

Date/Time:
Thursday, April 18, 2013 - 10:30 to 12:00

The Inter-American Social Protection Dialogues are a quarterly series of webinars and virtual discussions, sponsored by the Inter-American Social Protection Network (IASPN) of the Department of Social Development and Employment at the OAS, which seeks to promote the exchange of ideas and solutions on social protection in the Americas.

***The webinar will last approximately 80 minutes and will be moderated by the IASPN Secretariat in English only. This edition will cover similar material and topics to the one held on February 28 in Spanish.***

The Department of Social Development and Employment of the OAS, within the framework of the Inter-American Social Protection Network (IASPN), is organizing the third event of the series "Inter-American Social Protection Dialogues". This activity is facilitated through the IASPN Knowledge Portal, which is a virtual platform for the exchange of ideas and solutions on social protection in the Americas.

The third virtual dialogue will have the overarching theme "Social Protection from the perspective of the Social Charter of the Americas". It will provide a space to discuss the importance of the Social Charter’s principles in the development and implementation of comprehensive social protection policies, as well as the implications of its Plan of Action.

Some of the guiding questions for this event are,

  1. What is the importance of the Social Charter of the Americas for the Social Development Agenda in the region?
  2. How are the principles of a comprehensive social protection defined within the framework of the Social Charter?
  3. What are the main challenges in order to achieve comprehensive social protection systems?
  4. What are some aspects and/or recommendations to consider for the Plan of Action of the Social Charter? (For this question, we suggest you to consult the section on "Social Protection" in the proposed Plan of Action before providing your feedback).
