Open Registration - Coloquium: Effict Tool for Inclusive Savings

Date/Time:
Monday, November 3, 2014 - 08:30 to Tuesday, November 4, 2014 - 13:15

Promoting savings among low-income populations in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), for financial inclusion and poverty eradication purposes, has become increasingly important in recent years. However, there is still limited knowledge regarding, i) successful experiences from financial entities serving this segment, and ii) sustainable business strategies for designing and marketing products and services to reach this target segment.

This Colloquium, is organized by the ProSavings Program of the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), member of the IDB Group, sponsored by Citi Foundation and the International Development Research Centre, in collaboration with Oxfam America, the Remittances and Savings Program, and the Tec-In Program. The Colloquium aims to provide participating entities with the necessary tools to serve the low-income segment, based on business strategies that are currently implemented in the region and focus on serving this population in a sustainable and profitable way. Through this knowledge sharing, the Program seeks to promote and strengthen the industry’s growing interest in increasing the access to and use of financial services by low-income populations.

The Colloquium will take place over the course of a day and a half in six different topics will be addressed through presentations, discussions, and debates, among other interactive formats. These topics include:

- Business strategies for microsavings

- Market research studies for better products and services

- Cost-effective strategies for distribution channels - Financial inclusion of savings groups

- Remittances and savings

- Government payments and financial inclusion

- Impact evaluations to improve products and services.
