Ministers gathered in the 37th Assembly of Delegates of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) of the OAS, and adopted the Declaration of Lima, which urges Latin American countries to promote equality and economic empowerment of women.
"Through the Lima Declaration, we have the commitment of States to encourage women to participate and play a leading role in political decisions related to the economic sphere, and to promote their participation in the management of public and private companies," said Marcela Huaita, President of CIM.
The Peruvian Minister added that the commitment of States must be linked to the strengthening of female entrepreneurship as a way to consolidate the diversification of production in Latin American countries.
The assembly was held for two days with the participation of ministers and delegates from the 34 OAS Member States. The opening focused on the economic empowerment of women in the region.
