In 2009 the Mexican government adopted a new multidimensional measure of poverty which was the first of its kind to reflect the different forms of poverty called the General Law for Social Development (LGDS). The Independent Council for the Evaluation of Social Policy (CONEVAL) was created and has been in charge of coordinating and administering poverty evaluation. Through these studies, CONEVAL was able to identify several dimensions and indicators of poverty and additionally has determined several poverty thresholds. The article outlines the themes identified by CONEVAL and shares the research results.
