The significant contributions which bilateral and multilateral agreements have made to efforts designed to improve migrant-worker social security and pension rights are indisputable. On numerous occasions, however, it has been noted that these agreements have yet to achieve their fullest potential. A thorough analysis focused on the issue of pensions within the wider purview of bilateral and multilateral agreements social security agreements currently in force, necessitates a review of these systems’ coverage, effectiveness and principal determinants in terms of instrumentation (migration, labor market informality and shifts, and recommendations to provide social protection floors).
