“Trickle Up” is a global poverty alleviation program that works to help ultrapoor women by giving them training and a grant so that they have the means and knowledge to start their own businesses. The women who participate in the program are encouraged to start savings groups as a buffer against unforeseen shocks and circumstance. In Guatemala, a savings group called Las Azucenas is an example of a successful savings group where a small group of women have succeeded in supporting each other and are saving a significant amount of money. To ensure that Trickle Up maximizes their impact and tells success stories such as this one, robust monitoring and evaluation systems are needed. By going mobile, the organization will be able to serve their participants, track their progress in the remote, rural areas where they work and build more groups like Las Azucenas.
