The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) today signed a declaration of cooperation to support the countries of the Americas in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UNDP 50th Anniversary Ministerial Meeting

In 2016, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will celebrate its 50th anniversary.

UNDP came into being in 1966 as a merger of two predecessors: the Expanded Programme of Technical Assistance, and the United Nations Special Fund.

Today, fifty years later, UNDP is as relevant as ever: leading the UN development system in over 170 countries and territories and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life.

Big data is already creating a big impact. Some herald it as the new ‘data revolution’, others worry it is a tool for manipulation, while many in development cite it as key to successfully implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

On 24 November, at a joint meeting of the Permanent Council and the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI), the OAS member countries discussed initiatives to promote the Social Charter of the Americas and look for the best implementation of the Action Plan.

The Permanent Mission of Paraguay to the OAS formalized the offer of the Ministry of Social Action to host the Third Meeting of Ministers and High Authorities of Social Development to be held in Asuncion in July 2016.
